i may have to check that place out. i am planning to go down there memorial day weekend for autechre at this point, so..
Laughing Seed is good, they have a good indie book store, and there's an awesome veggie/vegan deli in the town as well.
Last time I was there they were having a war protest and it took over a huge park. It's a good lefty college town.
His complete tour dates don't seem to be posted yet, but Mike Doughty, former Soul Coughing frontman and small rock extraordinare, will be hitting the Black Cat on May 4. He'll be supporting his new album and playing with a full band.

He's a pretty good showman. I recommend checking him out.
I heard one of his new songs, and it seems like being on Dave Matthews' label has influenced his style.

Well, he's been a friend of Dave Matthews for a long time now. Soul Coughing opened for DMB on the Crash tour, which was in '96-'97, I think. So, if he's been influenced, it's not a new thing.

Just out of curiousity, do you remember what you heard?

Oh, and in keeping with the spirit of the thread, psychobilly fans should note that Tiger Army is playing the Black Cat on April 19th, with The Unseen and Lost City Angels. Should be a fun time.

I saw that Dead Can Dance will be in DC October 5th, but all the listing said was "Music Center" for the location.

i'm going anyway, just to hear the older stuff.

i dont get it, whats so bad about vacation?
There are very few artists whose live show I like as much as Robbie Fulks. His "Fountains of Wayne Hotline" sketch/song which simultaneously praises and mocks FOW is priceless. And the concert season has been bad for me this year…2 shows in 3 months…and now as soon as I go on vacation, bam. Brendan Benson will probably play while I'm gone, too.

Hell, I can go on vacation anytime. A Robbie Fulks appearance touring on a new album is a rarity.

as in Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard? need to find out more about this.
Archie Bronson Outfit is no longer listed with The Kills show 4/13. Which is actually a good thing because I think I will be out of town that night and would have hated to miss them.

Ah, SSHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTT………

Black Cat
THUR MAR 31- RADIO 4, PHASER, CALIGARI (reunion) (Supersystem cancelled) $10 mainstage 8:30

I want to see Phaser and couldn't see them the other week because of freaking work.

Due to Easter, my mother's birthday, work and various highly important things going on at work where we are not allowed to take any time off that week, I'm not able to see any shows from Easter weekend through the next. CRAP!!!! To top it off, it seems like so many shows I want to see are going on right at that time. ARRRGGGGGGG!!!

Andddd….. West Indian Girl have been removed from the calendar who were scheduled to open for The Wonder Stuff. Damn! On the positive side, now I don't have to worry about trying to get the next day off of work or put up with The Wonder Stuff, whom I don't like.
Black Cat
WED APR 6- EAGLES OF DEATH METAL $10adv/ $12day of mainstage 8:30

SAT MAY 21- VELVET (10-year anniversary show), MONOPOLI, GIST (to benefit Street Sense Newspaper) $8 mainstage 9:30

from the 4AD site:

"DEAD CAN DANCE - Dead Can Dance reform, play live, in 2005.

Dead Can Dance will be touring Europe and North America in 2005.

Tickets are now on sale for the European dates, with the North American dates will take place in September 2005 being announced shortly.

This will be the first time that Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry have performed on the same stage together since Dead Can Dance's last tour in 1996."

And the 1996 tour was awesome. I saw 'em in Chicago and the entire stage was draped in velvet. It was a commanding performance. It was amazing.
Oh how easily teenagers are impressed. :p
