i havent seen them before, but im looking forward to their show!
Inevitably someone will mention Rhett and his infamous "review" of their live show, but I was pretty bored at their Black Cat show myself. I think I left early, if I recall.

Still, almost everyone else seems to gush over their live show…

Two shows of interest for me, both at Iota:

9/22 Mosquitos
9/25 Bobby Bare Jr.

Both have new albums coming out.
I saw BSS at Merriweather earlier this summer. I found them completely underwhelming. I would have chalked it up to an "off" night for the band, but others at the same show reported experiences akin to rapture.

If you love BSS, you will likely find their show spectacular/amazing/orgasmic/transcendent. If you are agnostic about them, the show won't do a thing to win you over.
I've seen them twice before in small venues and they were amazing. The show at Merriweather was underwhelming for me because not all of them were there (the horn section from the previous shows consisted of 5 or 6 people). Because of the lack of players, the best songs that required the horn section were omitted (like KC Accidental)

Seen em twice - at 9:30 and recently at Lolla, and was blown away both times. They had the shortest set at Lolla, but arguably the best. But EVERYONE showed up for that show, which is not likely to happen at 9:30. Any ideas what the lineup is gonna be like?

i am from Canada and even i dont see what all the fuss is about. they are an ok band, but to use the words amazing, blown away, transcending….i just dont see how. i find their music pleasant and enjoyable, but not all that powerful. its funny cause it seems as though this BSS revolution has happened quite recently, yet the Scene has been around for many years. go figure.

i missed the performance, but seeing the setlist, it was the best one i've seen from them maybe ever (those 13minute songs bore me)

But Have you seen em live? I actually don't listen to the albums all that much, but I really do think they're amazing live. probably my favorite band to see in concert aside from Radiohead.

Who were they missing? And what 13 minute songs? The longest song I can think of is "It's All Gonna Break," which is 9-10 min. Great song, especially live ;)

Amy Millan (the other girl) is touring behind her solo album this fall, so I assume Emily Haines will be there.
Broken Social Scene? And Do Make Say Think? Good lord.

Speaking of Amy Millan, she'll be at the Black Cat on November 18.

i'm from canada, silly, i have seen them about 10 times, and while on CD none of their songs are 13 minutes, live they can realllllly stretch em out.

and as i said, i missed the performance, but a few friends said there were all but 2 of them at lolla. the big ones were there though, you are right.

BSS is a very good live band, dont get me wrong.

it wasnt amy milan. cause i like stars.
the girl that sung it at the last 930 show was a new member of bss.
she was blonde. and kind of just stood there.

That would be Lisa Lobsinger. She's more or less a full time member of the band now but PALES in comparison to Haines, Millan, or Feist. Not only can she barely sing, but she has zero stage presence. As a sidebar, she usually doesn't wear shoes onstage and has quite large feet. My friends and I have taken to calling her Frodo. :)

Put me in the camp that finds BSS mindblowing. But I can totally see how it depends on who is actually on stage. There are so many people in the collective who show up when possible and those are some of the best musicians/performers. I have a bad feeling that this US tour will be with just Lisa Lobsinger which makes it more or less a Broken Sausage Scene.

while i do not care for porcupine tree, projeKt 6, which consists of robert fripp and adrian belew, is opening this show. that should be cool.

Oh, Amy Milan sang it at the last show at Merriweather.
Yeah, but I Dare was referring to Lisa Lobsinger who sung it at the last 930 show. The show at the Merriweather was sung by Amy (she was horrible, IMO)
