I for one hope the Julian/Jaguar show continues throughout this godawful snow bullshit. Between this thread and the snow one, today on this forum has contained unbelievable amounts of written gold.
Just Announced

How is it a bug up my ass? You implied that the several country bookings had something to do with Jiffy Lube sucking up to NASCAR fans (as though only NASCAR fans need auto parts?) and several of us pointed out Nissan has had a country music package of shows for several years. You then vaguely implied that at some point Jiffy Lube would somehow use their fiduciary connection to the venue to control bookings and when I asked in what practical way you thought it was the case, I have a bug up my ass? Yeah, ok…
::) The Lube guys aren't stupid, I would assume. Would bet there is some boardroom talk about wooing the most potential customers between the sponsor and the venue. Don't know this for sure but big business honchos don't let everything to chance.
In a 'positive' light, I noted that the NASCAR fans are 'probably' being courted. Not 'sucked up to'. And why not? They like to go out to musical performances too. Apparently, you see that as a bad thing. I have no idea what sort of Country acts they were booking before but seems to be a smart business move on their part. Guess you don't want to agree with that because it might just bring down Julian's Illusionary American Neigborhood. Too bad! That and it scratches your bugged ass to throw barbs my way. Go see a doctor as soon as you get your paths cleared. A good psychiatrist might do you well.
Mr. Natural - I know, dude.
Ethel - Don't egg him on!

Oh, dear God. You, of all people, should understand this. If, by chance, they get a whim, or a bug up their ass, like you, than they can threaten to pull their name; hence, their support; which could be the swaying factor. Why would they bother? Who knows. Things like that happen. Maybe not often, but if they piss off the right, or wrong, person, fortunes can change.
i strongly suspect that the contract reads: "you give us $x, we rename and promote the venue as Jiffy Lube Live". end of contract.
there is a venue called "Verizon Center", but do you think Verizon Communications Inc., the telco, has any say over who plays there? do you seriously think the president of Verizon can intervene to stop a hockey team, or a musical act, from playing the arena?

Would you please read what I wrote and not what you think I wrote. ::)
They are going to put their name where they think they might get the most business exposure. Period. And don't try telling me there wasn't some kind of talk with the venue before the deal about who those audiences might be. That sort of money isn't thrown around lightly.
Time out, please start a side commentary thread…. thanks a bunch
Charlotte Gainsbourg (excellent new album, btw) may have cancelled her show, but you can still see her mom:
Jane Birkin was one of the coolest women of the late 1960s. A star of Michelangelo Antonioni's Swinging London cult fave "Blow Up," the British actress is best known for the French-language lounge-pop music she recorded with her lover Serge Gainsbourg, especially their sexually explicit hit "Je T'aime Moi Non Plus." Birkin acted and performed with Gainsbourg throughout the '70s, but she eventually left him and appeared in more mainstream films. She's kept his music alive through tributes; her latest album, 2009's live "Jane Birkin au Palace," features their hits and her own original material. In recent years, she's been working with younger artists, from the Pet Shop Boys to French hip-hop icon MC Solaar. Expect to hear songs spanning her storied career at a rare Washington visit to the French Embassy's La Maison Francaise.

At the risk of sounding like a bad American, I can think of few things more cringe-inducing than the idea of a Toby Keith concert on 9/11.

Jaguar refers to Joe and I as "Fred and Ethel" because of my often caustic smartass responses to Joe.
Man or Astro-Man? should be somewhere in that SXSW lineup.

No but there has been official word that it will
Edit:Just re-read it and maybe calling that an extension is a little premature.
