I have the new cd and, while it is quite different from her solo stuff, I don't find it very far removed from the 2003 Muses album, much of which was also very hard & in your face.yes, it most resembles the 2003 release, which was excellent - Speed and Sleep was my favorite

blade 3? both blades were in the upcoming sequals section of my blockbuster…..
Has anyone bothered to listen to the new Wilco album? Any thoughts? I'm streaming it now, and I'm not sure I have an opinion yet.

I'm not thrilled with it. Then again, I'm not an alt-country fan. I really liked YHF because it was more than just twangyness… it was art at a higher level than the easily catagorized. I wouldn't really say that about this album– it's more slow, more country/folky. But that's my bias.

I don't hear the country on this one though like chimbleysweep. I think it sounds like YHF - except it's quieter and the great pop melodies (that they hid behind noisy beginnings & endings) aren't as easily picked out.
Can't get it to work here at work, and my pc at home is crashed out.

I'm with you a bit, although I think I'm definitely underwhelmed by it as a whole. I could definitely do without the absurdly long Spiders (Kidsmoke) and Less Thank You Think (do I really need THAT much buzzing? I think not). Tweedy is definitely still on his Sonic Youth trip; the album is much more YHF than anything else. Something about the songs just doesn't grab me, though. At least on YHF, the songs underneath the noise were striking, even the super low-key ones (like Kamera or Jesus, Etc.). I just kind of glossed over this one. I probably need to listen again while I'm not distracted at work, but my first impression is this is Wilco's weakest…by far.

Overall the entire record sounded much better to me the second time through.
I may miss them in Coachella anyway since I'm going with some big-time Kraftwerk fans.
i have the whole thing, minus the last song. just listened to it once, not too too stoked. yhf grabbed me much sooner. i like (not love) altcountry, by the way. anyone who posts a link to the last song is my new best friend

Some of the biggest names in music today will be joining together to honor country rock legend Gram Parsons in two of the most ambitious live events scheduled for Summer 2004. Return to Sin City: A Tribute to Gram Parsons: the two star-studded concerts will take place on July 9, 2004 at the Santa Barbara Bowl and July 10, 2004 at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Norah Jones, Dwight Yoakam, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Raul Malo (Mavericks) and Jim Lauderdale are confirmed to perform. Many more are invited to participate, schedules permitting include: Keith Richards, Elvis Costello, Beck, Emmylou Harris, Ryan Adams, Ben Harper, Starsailor and The Old 97's.
Tickets for Return to Sin City: A Tribute to Gram Parsons will go on sale on Saturday, May 8, 2004. Tickets, with prices starting at $40, will be made available through Ticketmaster.
Polly Parsons, armed with a fearless passion, is organizing Return to Sin City: A Tribute to Gram Parsons thirty years after her father's death. She is recruiting both close friends and ardent fans of her father as well as contemporary artists inspired by his work. Gram did not see boundaries in music and Polly now feels compelled to further his mission, breaking down perceived barriers of age and genre to bring together artists who audiences might not expect to be on the same stage together. This celebration of her father's music has been a lifelong dream for Polly, who was just six years old when her father died at age 26 of a morphine and tequila overdose.
A portion of the proceeds from the concerts will be donated to the Musicians' Assistance Program (MAP), which makes it possible for members of the music industry to receive treatment for drug and alcohol addiction regardless of their financial situation.
House of Blues Concerts and Nederlander West Coast are working jointly to produce the tribute shows at Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles and at the Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara.
Los Angeles-based independent radio station KCRW will be the presenting radio station for both concerts.

Hot Damn indeed - this would be quite cool.
Hmmm…[wondering where the $$ would come from for a second trip to the west coast this summer?!?!?!]
I get random pre-sale announcements from HOB (House of Balls) - I hope I get one for this.
btw - I heard the movie about abusing Gram Parson's corpse starring Johnny Knoxville really sucked.
Too bad about that.
