I just saw this listing…I would have thought that Rogue Wave and Fruit Bats together would be mainstage.

Yeah, kinda surprised it's not on the mainstage. I really like the stuff I've heard from Chad Van Gaalen as well. This should be a great show

I would have thought for sure for Rogue Wave, Fruit Bats did not get much of a crowd at Iota last year, although they do have more press from the new album release

Operation Ceasefire Concert

Operation Ceasefire

International recording stars Thievery Corporation are bringing together several notable musical acts such as Ted Leo and The Pharmacists, Le Tigre, Bouncing Souls, country music recording artist Steve Earle, socially conscious hip hop groups like The Coup, the rock 'n soul group The Bellrays, along with progressive activists/performers Head-Roc, Jello Biafra, Wayne Kramer of the MC5 and many others for a free concert on the Washington Monument grounds.

The concert is part of the three days of massive anti-war activities being planned in Washington, DC by United for Peace and Justice. It will cap a full day that starts with a late morning rally, a march through downtown Washington and an anti-war fair on the grounds of the Washington Monument. UFPJ is delighted to be working with the concert producers to add the event into the full program of the weekend.

More details to follow soon.

.
WOW. that should be impressive. thievery corporation doing "warning shots" and "richest man in babylon" on the grounds of the monument. that will be quite the moment.

if they can pull off this musical festival, it'll be impressive-the purpose, the line up, etc. only in dc would this work (or not work, sadly).

has anybody ever been impressed by a DCFC performance? anywhere? whether you like their albums or not, I really think they are an awful live band
Have never seen them live but I don't really like them recorded so have no desire to see them live.

Regardless of what I like, I can easily see them filling up the 9:30 Club but nothing bigger.

September 24, on the Mall

This September, music has the potential to change the world! International recording stars Thievery Corporation will bring together several notable musical acts such as: Punk-rock bands Anti-Flag, Le Tigre, Bouncing Souls, Country music recording artist Steve Earle, Socially conscious Hip-Hop groups like The Coup, along with our own local Hip Hop legend and staunch progressive activist Head-Roc, Jello Biafra, Wayne Kramer of the MC5 and many others will unite on one stage for one cause! As Live Aid and Live 8 raised desperately needed funds and awareness for hunger and poverty, Operation Ceasefire intends to raise money for the fight against the misguided and immoral war and occupation of Iraq! Operation Ceasefire, with the help of Thievery Corporation, plans to produce a live CD and DVD of the concert. Proceeds from this free concert will be directed to co-sponsor United for Peace and Justice and local peace group, the D.C. Anti-War Network (DAWN).

my prayers have been answered … looks like this is the first "must-see" weekday show that will get me skipping class =)

their show a couple years back at the club was just fantastic, but i don't know if they've done much since then to get into people's consciousness, not sure if this will be a big seller
