Just Announced

the pogues' last 930 show was a complete waste of money…

I largely agree with you, but the one I saw in 2006 at the club was amazing. Fake snow from the rafters while Shane waltzed with the female singer in Fairly Tale of New York. Besides that, it was just a much better show all around than the '08 run.

yeah, i'm rarely one to say, "i should really see these guys since i've never seen them" but i did just that and went to see the pogues. it was pretty lousy. i'm sure they were better in the past, and now i can say "i've seen them" but it doesn't make me feel any better to be able to say that.
I thought both Pogues shows were great…. Shane sounded as good as ever was as sober as ever and Phil Chevron was back in the band after battling cancer… To top it off the first night they yelled out "MARADONA!" during Fiesta..

I've seen the Pogues three times now and Shane and the Popes twice…

I'm guessing people are just tired of them coming round but the shows this year at the 930 IMNSHO were good and as I mentioned they had special resonance for all but the most impervious: Shane was in fairly good form and Chevron..

Nice!

I haven't been to any of these parties yet; hope they're well attended. They've been bringing in quite a few huge names.

Again? I missed them earlier this year due to them not playing Lollapalooza. Hopefully they can get out our way one of these days.

Nice! They had one of my favorite sets at Bonnaroo this year. Definitely a fun way to spend NYE.

I sadly figured as such.
Maybe I'll go to this one. Did you go to Carl Craig? How was it if so?

i wanted to see Carl Craig but something else ending coming up that night, plus IMHO it's just silly these things have to run until 5am. Does the music get magically better at those late hours? Why drop some of the local talent filler from early in the evening and let the headliner come on at "reasonable" hour.

saw Kevin at DEMF this year and while he "spun" a melt your face electronic dance music primer from past to present.. he was only using a laptop and fader which makes me suspicious he was simply mixing an already created playlist done in his studio. i'm sure he has access to some wicked rare tracks, remixes, but it disappointing not to hear him working the vinyl, cds, or using something to control the laptop other than the mixer.
