good lord . . . another band i used to worship, playing at that place.  what, is this tease walkonby with shows at venue he will never ever dare go to?  do they offer bullet proof vests with tickets for shows there?

tickets come with a gat  ;D

H St. NE has really changed a LOT in the past few years.  At this point there are so many people hanging out down there for food / shows / drinking that it has become difficult to find parking!  The city has put in heaps of street lights and businesses have really sprouted up like crazy.  If you want to be scared of any area venue, perhaps you should invest your concern in DC9  :o

Dc9? srsly?

I was at RNR last night and the last time I went there was just about 2 years and just in that time span it's changed a lot.

maybe it was a bad joke

Must be why all the charges were dropped. A tragedy, yes, a very very sad thing to happen, but the chief of police jumped to conclusions before any proper investigation was even launched.

If you think Dc9 is in a sketchy area, then walk a block up to 9:30 Club and say the same thing. Or Town. Or Velvet Lounge. Or Dodge City. They're all within a block from each other.

It was a joke!  I'm not worried about any of those areas.

You should be. Washington, DC is a fucking cess pool.
Let me know how this is. Im sure itll be great - but Ive not yet bought my ticket for the Mercury show.

Could have sworn I posted that back when it was booked.

Either way, I'm absolutely there. Saw Gruff in NYC in January and it was great. This time he's got a backing band and a new album's worth of songs to play.

I've never been to the Red Palace. Is it one of those RnR Hotel-esque shitty places?

Wonderful show. Totally different than the Rockwood show in January, but very good. Definitely recommend seeing him again.

new tim delaughter news!

"The general public hasn?t heard much from Tim DeLaughter of The Polyphonic Spree/Tripping Daisy in about four years, but it appears he may be reemerging.  The biggest news is that he has a new band called Preteen Zenith, alongside former Tripping Daisy ?mate Philip Karnats, and a couple of newer Spree members (Jason Garner, Dylan Silvers.)

There are also hints of the Spree itself resurfacing, as well as a relaunch of Tim?s record label, Good Records Recordings, featuring a rerelease of the Tripping Daisy catalog amongst things.

If you live near/are able to travel to Dallas, you can witness this in person over the Summer, and the Summer is a fine time indeed for Tim DeLaughter?s repertoire.  The Polyphonic Spree play a free show at the Dallas Museum of Art on June 17, 2011, and Preteen Zenith will debut at the Gorilla vs. Bear Festival on July 23, 2011.  Oh, and, Tim?s record store is there.  Good Records.  You may as well make it a celebration of all of Tim?s endeavors.

If you are trying to keep up with The Polyphonic Spree?s migration around the world wide web, they have joined Twitter @PolySpree, and have been updating their Facebook recently."

DC, word?  That's a rough city man.
This is reminding me of the great DCist Nofolk & Western/DC9 dustup of…2007?
