Too bad DAR's sound is atrocious. I'll skip this ;)

really? i've never had huge complaints about DAR. i've never sat too far back so maybe sound quality degrades as you get towards the back of the room (reflection). i was front and center for the foos, the fills a few feet away were very mid'y (and a tad loud) but the overall effect was acceptable. DCFC's last show was decent-sounding as far as i remember.

what totally sucks is mci/verizon - ouch. you're either deaf from being right on top of the sound system, or you hear pure distortion and reflections from the other 80% of the venue. absolutely horrible. i know, i know, sports arenas weren't made to host loud musical events, if you're not happy stay the fuck home, yadda yadda…
OK go is also playing the death cab east coast shows.

wonder if they'll bring the treadmills?
Just to settle this discussion….

if you guys had some quality control in your music taste, you wouldn't always be having these conflicts…

reminder: the presets are headlining their own show at the rock'n'roll hotel this friday Sept 8, only $10 http://www.rockandrollhoteldc.com/portal/calendar/ i'm betting that the 930 show will be more expensive and you'll get a shorter set out of them. on the other hand you'll get the rapture, too.

speaking of the r'n'r hotel, dunno if this has been mentioned:
Sat Oct 28
Washington Social Club + The Nethers
$10

I think Jenny's only doing the West coast dates.
You thought correct.

And with a very cool DAM! Fest show we've haven't announced yet. Man, talk about a rough weekend to have a festival. Good thing our headliner on the 26th has a very different sound than the Rapture or the National(who i might add we helped get for the the Black Cat).

Funny that with all of the more significant players on that day, that you chose to highlight a rinky dink local band.

I was wrong. Apologies for the confusion.
PANIC! AT THE DISCO
w/ Bloc Party & Jack's Mannequin
@ GMU Patriot Center, Fairfax, VA
Saturday, November 11

Is this a joke? Bloc Party is opening for these clowns? Seriously, this can't happen. Bloc Party can't be hanging out with these guys. They need to align with quality acts. Accept their duty to make intelligent quality music and put on meaningful shows and not feckin tour with friends of Fall Out Boy. Why are they on board to pander to the alterna-TRL crowd? This is not ok!!
Point takeb. Substitute "odd" for "funny".

We talked about this a bit already, we basically decided that the crowds aren't as incompatible as one would think. I know lots of casual music fans who dig both of these bands, and Panic! are huge right now, why not take the chance play sold out arenas.

I thought Bloc Party put out the best release of 05, and they make smart music with genuine emotion, and PATD just strike me as lame on all fronts, so I'm biased - but basically, I feel like this kind of environment can be poisonous to a quality band. If Bloc Party's second album sucks, than this is a smart move. If the second album is good, it doesn't make any sense. They are capable of creating huge buzz on their own terms. In art like in life, you don't want to get caught up with the wrong crowd, and "sell-out" moves can suck the life out of you.

The new fans they pick up are the exact fans that will cause the fans they've earned on their merits to be alienated, especially when they're paying $60 to see the band at Constitution Hall at a social event, rather than a show.

I think it can cause a young band to become very cynical (thinking if the people like this crap, do we really want to please people?) or self-doubting (if people like pseudo-high school drama club geeks in make-up playing lame fourth generation watered down shit, why should we bother trying to make something meaningful). Stay in your element.

[Pretentious spoiler alert] Artistic Quality can be very fragile and needs to be protected - particularly with young bands, and you've got to be careful and make good decisions. Yes, its just a short tour, but these kinds of moves are dangerous. If you're a smart band capable of actual artistic quality, you shouldn't be hanging out with hookers doing blow and wasting youre talents and you shouldn't be hanging out with PATD. Both (may) have soul reducing effects.
