The last Strokes show at DAR sucked. Many reasons - The sterile museum DAR vibe, band burnout (from which they've never recovered, by the way), Jimmy Fallon opening. Lots of bad stuff. An interesting factor was the major shift in the crowd from the 9:30 Club show 13 months earlier. Young adult urban indielagensia (good-looking I might add) replaced by young high-school/college tiger beat crowd. The band's misdirection was partly to blame, but part (of course) was the venue. Just like the Phillips is a better place for The Boating Party than the Rockville Hooters, 9:30 is a better place for the Strokes.

Obviously DAR has inherent problems . . . but I thought the Pixies managed to rock there . . . so its possible.
rather than going to the strokes show at DAR, i went to the one in raleigh @ the ritz (now disco rodeo). it was still terrible. that is one of the worst sounding venues i've ever been to. that's another one on the list i'd never go back to.

If anyone feels like taking a jaunt up to NYC, Black Wire is playing a full set at MisShapes tomorrow night. I'll definitely be there.

Apparently, this is a co-headlining tour with the bands swapping headlining slots each night.

Also, note that the date is now SUN APR 2 (and not Sat Apr 1 as originally posted by Sonar).

Man, I am SO stoked to see this show. We'll probably miss Neko's 9:30 Club set in order to catch the High Dials at DC9. So we're going to make the trek out to Charlottesville for the Tues show. Anyone have an opinion on this venue?

If you like State Theatre in Falls Church, you'll love Starr Theatre. It isn't awful, but it's not a great venue.
So it's a seated venue?

No. It's similar in size, shape, and sound quality. There are tables in the back for every show I've been to, however. The restauraunt is actually downstairs (the venue is second floor).

Also - cool for whoever posted the vanderslice date.
For those that can't make the Birchmere show:

Jenny Lewis w/ The Watson Twins
Recher Theatre

the restaurant is actually not bad (though a little pricey), and they have good microbrews on tap

I think they are nothing alike.
State Theater is just that - a theater.
I'd compare Starr Hill to Iota (if Iota had two levels).
xcanuck - sent you more details…
Don't feel like combing back through the thread to see if this is already posted, sorry if it has:

Rob Dickinson (ex-Catherine Wheel)
3/11 Sonar (club stage) $12

Yeah, I agree, I would say the two are very different. Seeing a show at Starr HIll is kind of like being in a living room - its very small, and has sort of a weird room shape to it. Great venue.
