Brian Wilson/Al Jardine/David Marks  w/ Jeff Beck

Warner Theatre

10/5

Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson and guitarist Jeff Beck will co-headline a North American tour this fall. Fellow classic Beach Boys members Al Al Jardine and David Marks will join Wilson and Beck throughout the tour. Wilson is currently working on a few studio projects, including a collaboration with Beck and his band. Wilson, Jardine and Marks were blocked from performing with the current touring version of The Beach Boys led by singer Mike Love. Wilson has played select shows with Jardine and Marks throughout 2013.

?Jeff is one of the most amazing guitarists I?ve ever worked with and his vibe is inspiring,? says Wilson. ?I feel having Jeff Beck co-headline with me is a cool and exciting addition. We?ve got some new tunes we want to try out on a live crowd as well as doing some great music from our catalogues.?
Wilson and Beck?s co-headlining tour will kick off in Hollywood, FL on September 27. Their tour will feature a mix of theaters and outdoor spaces.

Excellent!  Though this show won't sell out, so I'll wait and get FWB points with the club by purchasing through them.

I saw Tommy Keene in 1984 so if I saw him that night it would 29 years between shows setting my personal record.  Maybe I should wait a few more years though.

Jesus, if that band gets even a whiff of success, she's gonna dump those 3 losers so fast. There is no less secure a job than as the bandmate in a group with a female singer.

A fun campfire game is to try and think of a female-fronted band, with at least 3 albums in their discography, where the chick singer did not at some point release a solo album. There's one pretty major answer and then it gets tough.

Beach House, Lush, Celebration, Garbage, Cocteau Twins…
She and Him.

That counts, right?

Those are pretty good!

Garbage works. Manson was heavily into recording a solo album but apparently it was rejected by Geffen so she counts.

Elizabeth Frazer has a solo career but not an album so that counts.

Beach House and Celebration are relatively new so there's still time for them to ditch the losers but they haven't yet. And I have nothing to say about Lush except that yes, they count too.
Even if there are a thousand exceptions, the point rings true.  Sharing the space of a band with a figure such as Debbie Harry can definitely result in overshadowing.  A lot of people, I believe, regard Stevie Nicks as the definitive face and voice of Fleetwood Mac, and she was not even in the band for their formative era(s).

The British music press never even bothered to learn the names of the musicians in Sleeper, just referring to them as "Sleeper-blokes" at the height of their Britpop fame.
