The Nada Surf show at the 8x10 in 2006 had to be the best 12 dollar show I've ever been to. Such a criminally ignored band.

Tell me about it. I've only seen them once, opening for Death Cab in Seattle. Good lord, that was almost four years ago. I really wanted to catch one of those shows with Rogue Wave last year, but just didn't end up making any of them.

Oh, yeah, I was going to include that Minus the Bear date, too… And yes, Hoya, the Lucero show has been mentioned. I believe someone asked who all would be dressing up, actually. :)
What is the 8x10 capacity? Something like 200? It seems almost criminal that Nada Surf is playing venues of that size and Ryan Adams is playing DAR.

Alas, I'll be home with my girls, and will catch them the next time they play DC.

Bloc Party, Deerhoof, and Smoosh are touring together. Good lord, that would be an awesome show. Here's hoping they announce more dates.
I noted this schedule the other day - definitely interested in seeing something close by. Thanks for posting those other shows as well, hopefully, they too will show at the club.

Shouldn't you be promoting SF Bay Area shows instead? :D

For all the shows xneverwherex gives me the heads up on, I thought it was the least I could do.
hahah - i think ive been slacking on your end.

well 2 shows actually of importance (to me). first - a record release party & show? at bimbos? for the new lovemakers album. id be all over that!

and second - Aug 25 2007 8:00P Veil Veil Vanish

LIVE 105 SUMMER CONCERT SERIES at Bottom of the Hill w/Street To Nowhere San Francisco
Aug 26 2007 5:00P
Rasputin Campbell (instore) Campbell
Aug 31 2007 8:00P

I'll agree with you some regarding their lack of recognition, but they do play large venues. (They are also playing Satellite Ballroom - same place as Ryan in the fall.)
It's great they are playing such an itimate show at the 8x10, however, I'll probably avoid it because it will be packed.
for the SF folk:

8/2 - @ Popscene - VHS Or Beta
Mon 8/6 - @ Cafe Du Nord - the 1990s (from Scotland)
8/9 - @ Popscene - The Wombats - also playing in NYC at The Annex
8/16 - @ Popscene Switches and Junior Senior - for those going to lolla - Switches is also playing there
Mon 9/24 - @ Bottom of the Hill - Maps (also in NYC).

im noticing a huge trend in bands playing SF and NYC only. not that im complaining. so theres your update smackie! :)

Maybe they would get more exposure if their tour booker didn't ask for outrageous amounts of money.
And yet the 8x10 is only charging 15 bucks a ticket…

Tell me about it. Something tells me they aren't getting 10k for this show…

Bookers are scum…

That show was great, but the sight lines in the little club are a little F'd up, you either have great view or a very awkward one, and there had to be some fire regulations ignored because we were packed in there.

The only other time I've seen them in DC is when they did a show at the old Metro on 14th I want to say 2000? But they're regularly on the euro festival circuit, especially in Spain so they definitely get what they deserve over there with near headlining slots.

Their last two albums are masterpieces, and the entire body of work does deserve much more notice, how they got lumped in with the 90's one-hit wonders is criminal. But at least they've survived and continue to play, it's a treat to see them in such small places, so as long as they can make a living doing it I can't complain too much about them getting dissed, it's a win win for me.

Easily.

Well $15 is face, but surcharges are $6.50 per ticket, plus $2 building charge, BEFORE the "order" surcharge, when it's said and done a pair are almost $50, and with no advance sales at the venue you either suck it up or get left out because this will sell out. But it's still a bargain considering the quality/quantity factors.

According to this, they do have advance sales at the box office. I would think that would allow you to avoid the $6.50 charge, but not the $2 charge.
