this show is going to be so fucking packed … what was he thinking not booking at 930?
i had no idea his following here would warrant it. he's never played here before, he doesn't get a whole lot of press (does he?) at least no more than any of the other bands that play mainstage. i'd think the black cat would be fitting… or at least 930 would be risky.
i agree about the risk of playing your first DC gig at 930, but i really believe his following is bigger than you think … my small cross-section could obviously be way off the norm, but a lot of people i know really like him and have been waiting for him to come to DC, plus he has the requisite highly-rated pitchfork review and blogosphere fawning
I thought he has played the Black Cat before?

I saw Him and Dan Deacon at Ottobar in April and it was incredibly pack with a lot of people who had driven from NYC and Philly for this show.

Does he have any music playing in tv commercials or commercial radio? If not, I agree with you.
I've never heard of him. Likely a reflection on me, but aside from the young kid bands (of hte Fall Out Boy ilk), I've usually heard of the bands playing 9:30.
Here's the opening paragraph of the allmusic review for "Oh You're So Silent Jens" … granted, it's kind of hard to get a bad review on allmusic, but this is about as over-the-top as they get:

"If you haven't heard Jens Lekman yet, you're missing out on one of the true pop geniuses of the early 2000s. His sound is a glittering and shiny bedroom pop built on gentle guitars, bold and often hilariously obvious samples, and subtle orchestration and arrangement topped with lyrical turns that brings laughs and heartfelt vocals that bring tears. Lots of people have done the same thing but few are as sweet and sly, few have the musical skills, and few balance the smarts and soul quite so gracefully as Lekman – maybe Stephin Merritt in his prime, maybe Beck at his most intimate. Maybe."

Girl Talk played the Black Cat Backstage back in October last year… I was at the Ottobar gig too and Dan Deacon undoubtedly stole the show that night

Did the people in the cubicles around you look at you like you're a little nuts?

If, next time you walk by the water cooler everybody stops talking, it's because you're now the "crazy girl" in the office.

I did a "Director" and hung out with the Shit Disco guys at the Fierce Panda Birthday party back in February, then they crashed in my hotel room during SXSW, awesome blokes, and prodigious drinkers. T

This will be a killer double bill, but it would seem to have BC Mainstage written all over it and perhaps even a flip in the billing.

I hope they can fill the club up and that I have anything left for them as it's the fourth show in a row after Sonic Youth, The Cure, and Smashing Pumpkins the 3 previous nights uggggghhhh.

I also wonder whether they'll get a chance to play some of the Bjork dates since the Klaxons are opening for her during her Septmeber shows, oh the possibilities…

Thanks. We'll be in a hotel room in Quebec City, but I'm sure I can catch the archive.

There's actually a very good live Josh Ritter show archived at www.fabchannel.com, that site Vansmack mentioned awhile ago.
