The Bar on 18th and U?

The same. Anybody been? Thoughts on the place? How are the bartenders?

I used to watch football there about four years ago on Sundays… Wouldn't step foot in there on a Friday/Saturday night, no clue how a show would be there. I guess upstairs…

"best neighborhood bar" voted by wcp.

my fond memory of the last pumpkins show was the one at dar, first night . . . where some kid in front kept yelling towards the end of the show,

"you're a fag.  you suck now.  i used to like your music, but you're a fag now who sucks."

nice.
don't most fags suck?

<badum tsh>
oh lord no!  and some suck . . . at sucking.

double  badum tsh.

Strangest venue choice

I'm wondering if someone who used to work/book at Sonar moved to the Recher.  Several of the last Sonar shows were moved to the Recher even before Sonar officially closed, and this is the type of show that probably would've been booked in Sonar's club room if it still existed.

Or maybe they just wanted a Baltimore-area show, and Ottobar was already booked for that night.
GOD i hope someone improves the recher bookings.. in the late 90s/early 00s they were getting some really cool shows and then nothing.

I saw wilco, ween, guided by voices and other great shows there.. and the place always had a good vibe…
I don't know why they no longer get bands there.  I think they're more focused on the bar scene now.  Totally agree.  Saw some wonderful shows there…Wilco, Sonic Youth/Liars, Misfits, Ween, etc…

Monozine tweeted the announcement. Looks like your latter theory is correct.

Speaking of Sonar though, I was thinking that maybe their booker moved to Rams Head. The Thrill Jockey show surely would have been at Sonar.
I'll add Drive By Truckers and Old 97's to your list.

Though the Recher was quite possibly the nastiest ashtray of a club or bar that I've even set foot in.

he was talking about "really cool shows" so i suspect he left those off intentionally.
