Just Announced

I bought Ben Folds Five first album when it came out in 1996ish? My then indie rock girlfriend hated it, but I liked it.

That was really the only album of his I got into. I moved to Chapel Hill, NC, the birthplace of the band, and the local indie music press hated him there. They put on a good live show the one time I saw them.

I don't think he's as mainstream or cheesy as Billy Joel, though he's really no longer my cuppa tea.
i've seen ben folds larger places than wolftrap. actually, the worst one was at a 930 club type of club, mostly because of the stupid venue.

he's more like the slacker elton john. the last album wasn't great, but all of the 5 stuff was pretty rockin'. seen him 5 times, only the bad one was the above mentioned show

Ben Folds
awesome!
What's the deal with Ben Folds?

It seems the ones that like him are obsessed with him like Britney fans are with her.
I dunno I've never really heard him solo. But you are right people who like his music, swear by him. I guess I somewhat liked Ben Folds Five…for a few weeks, years ago. Guster had rave reviews in this area. I'm thinking I might not like them for some reason. Not my cup o tea? I've never seen Rufus, but his name is popping up everywhere. All in all, the three together, I just might have to kill 3 birds w/ one stone.

Guster is pretty good too. A little Dave Matthews/John Mayer-ish, but still OK. The show they did on MTV where they covered the Violent Femmes album was most excellent.
I actually stood next to Rufus while watching another artist on the second stage of a festival at Merriweather a number of years ago. He was very skinny, as i recall.

Didn't really care much for his music.
ok, i'm ready for whatever mockery this post will earn me, but it's true…

Will this be a concert or a reading of their new children's book?
I would completely see TMBG anytime…what kind of show is at the Marine Center, though?
5/27 BR549 Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, Richmond.

I dunno, but smelling flowers at a concert sounds much, much better than smelling cigarettes.

Who knows? But when I saw them at the in-store at Borders they played music… can't imagine them just reading.

It'll probably be a kid-friendly "No!" style show. But I still wanna be there. The two Johns are always worth hearing. And it's cool to see 'em interact with their kiddie fans.

They're so great. Do either of 'em have kids?

A couple of guys i know are in the semis tonite, band called Candian Invasion. Decent power pop. I think Voodoo Blue is in another semi someplace else.
