I would MUCH rather see a show at the 930 club than at ANY HOB venue. I have been to just four HOBs but they all seem pretty much the same.

And for that we should all be goddamn fucking grateful. Look at the Myrtle Beach scene, it's HOB or fucking Charlotte, Columbia, or Raleigh.

Fuck HOB. Long live Seth.
How can you compare Myrtle Beach to DC?

Honestly? I lived in Wilmington NC for about 5 years, and you market the same way there as you do here. It's horribly similar, which you wouldn't think, with the disparity of sizes, but it really is that way.

either way, I hear HOB, I automatically hiss and run away. I have yet to have a very positive experience at one of those venues.
Do they still do the WE Fest in Wilmington?
Yeah, but it's an enormous joke. Even the Azalea Festival got better bands… and by better, I mean some American Idol thing, some country band, and maybe some kinda top 40 (ie: Sister Hazel) band.

Marrz is a shitheap, Soapbox is ok, but not great, and that's really all the venues anymore. =/

come 2010 - he'll have to deal with Filmore Silver Spring … it will rain on Seth's parade (awww - pity party)
So do we have two live nation employees on the board now?

no it's just sad and pathetic that DC is nothing like Philly (or any other large city for that matter) that has more music venues than you can shake a fist at - Seth is just acting selfish, childish and wants NO competition of any sort.

agreed
Give me a break…Seth being selfish for giving DC a plethora of amazing shows for decades? Seth being selfish for using a ton of other venues to promote IMP shows? (That includes Lisner Auditorium, the Smith Center, WUST aka new 9:30, Bender Arena, Merriweather, Verizon Center, Patriot Center, DAR…etc.) It's not Seth's fault that some of DC venues suck. He's a businessman, and a damn good one. Get a clue. He and his crew have done more for the DC music scene than anyone else. We're blessed to have him.

I never went to any of those places. The years I went they had shows at Bessies and Firebelly. There were also shows at a diner where the exchange was set up and some late night shows at random lofts and store fronts. That was 99-02. When were you livng there?
you cant deny that he tries to bury any competing venues…and DC could use them. *cue rising ticket prices argument*

amen

he may be a 'good business man' but again - he's selfish there's no other appropriate word to describe him. His attitude to be the only one to 'rule the roost' is very apparent. Another other city council (DC caved under pressure - they are gullable and quite frankly stupid) would have laughed against his opposition - Silver Spring Maryland did just that.

[side comment - I am soooo glad to see that the upcoming Eels and Elbow show are at the 6 and I Synagogue]

Shyeah, what nerve of a businessman/entrepreneur to try to bolster his business interests in a competitive environment.

Seth is a lot of things, good and bad, but you can't deny the fact that he's a true DC guy, has been on the scene longer than most of the board have been alive, and is more responsible for the caliber of music that comes through town than anyone else. For the size of DC, there are plenty of alternatives, so go ahead and make your stand and don't attend his shows.

Giles, you seem like an angry man. Keep exploring that and see what you get.
