Just Announced

Enon at Warehouse last time were horrible. I'd pick Health.

pure coolness. i was pissed that i missed their last show at the 930, looks like i get a shot at redemption. dunno if they played any new stuff then, but they have news track on their myspace page - new album forthcoming at some point, so i guess these shows will be to test them out. other dates:

Fri April 11 Terminal 5, NYC (w/ Nada Surf)
Sat April 12 Johnny Brenda's, Philadelphia, PA

pre-sale tickets for b'more and philly on sale now.

and finally, the 2-CD set previously sold only during the reunion tour can now be ordered from their website .
I wanna go!

Never been to dar. Any heads up on what this place is like?

In all seriousness, it's my least favorite venue on Earth.
06.27 Ladytron (Sonar)
06.28 Ladytron (9:30)

live? confirmed? yeay! i was sorta afraid it would be a DJ set, but $18 would be a lot. luckily digitalism's live set-up is pretty small.

people seem to fall into two camps:

- the largest is the "worse venue evar" camp. complaints: it's chairs and not GA, security tries to keep people in their seats, can't bring drinks to the main hall (i.e. to your seat), it's too posh - doesn't feel like a venue where rock should be played, and the big daddy: sound sucks. on this last point: DAR was designed for speeches, graduations and violin recitals. good sound is dependent on a good sound tech team that knows what they're doing with that particular space, which isn't a given.

- personally, i'm in the "i like DAR" camp. i've seen about two dozen shows there and other than the very minor complaint of not having a beer in my hand, i like the somewhat refined look and feel of the place. it's perfect for acoustic shows (acoustic foos = one of my top five shows ever). for rock concerts, good sound is to be had in the front half of the room (for dream theater, i'd only consider going if i could get floor seats in the first 15 rows, otherwise i fear the echo will be overwhelming). i'm also a fan of the box seats, great & comfy sight lines. edit: the sweet spot for boxes are 13 through 22.

I agree with sweetcell about the box seats. If you can get one of the side boxes–but not one too close the stage; the angles can be awkwardly extreme–you'll have a very good view, plus you'll be spared the crowd and struggling to see over people's heads (unless you're tall and don't have to worry about this, anyhow). I've been in box 13 before and would recommend something in that area. I didn't think the sound was a problem from that location, although I did leave deaf in only the ear facing the speakers. (Seeing which show this is, I doubt you'll be leaving with any hearing ability at all.)

This is one of the most insane bookings ever. I mean, props for DC9, no doubt, but I have no idea how Digitalism agreed to this.

no. way. is iota nonsmoking?
I don't think so. Last time I was there was late December, and people were smoking. Wasn't overwhelmingly smokey in there though.

Another proposal to ban smoking in VA failed today, so it doesn't look like it'll be non-smoking by the time this show comes around, unless IOTA imposes one on their own.
digitalism are playing a few small venues on this tour in places like houston, dallas and cleveland so this isnt a *total* shock.

Well, I'm stoked for it. What's the official capacity at DC9 anyway?
Maybe 200??
