I can't tell if you're kidding or not, so I'll answer instead for those that are afraid to ask.

NMA are 80's UK punk band that I can only describe as incendiary. Highly charged lyrics behind hardcore beats, NMA had huge followings in the Europe and a decent following in the States for hardcore punks.

Intelligent lyrics too - they hated the uber hardcore skin heads and facists and relied on their wit through their lyrics attacking just about everything, especially the Tory's and the way America treated the UK as it's "51st state."

They took some time off but played their first gig state side at SXSW this year and were 90% of the reason I tried to get to Austin. They later toured and I caught them in SF where they played a full set. Gang of Four and NMA were easily the best shows I've seen this year. It will be loud and hard and highly entertaining. It's nearly the original line-up (their original drummer passed away in November, he was good friend of a good friend).

They're playing SF on Sept. 17 and I already have tickets, despite the fact that it won't sell out. I'm just that excited about it. Any punk ass that goes to the warped tour should go to show respect to the trailblazers. They won't be disappointed.
surprisingly, i was actually serious. i've heard a lot about them before but never got around to hearing their music for whatever reason….i just wanted to learn a bit more about them from a fan's perspective (as opposed to reading on amg)..now that i think about it though, i think i have heard some stuff from them on a few different comps i believe just no full lengths. what do you think is their best record(s)?

LP wise, either "Thunder and Consolation" or "No Rest for the Wicked." My brother in law would argue to the death that "Vengence" is their best. You can't go wrong with any of those.

In addition, they have two "singles" collections that might also be a good place to start out. "History" from their EMI days and "Great Expectations," which was a US only release. I have the latter.

And they have the odd Social Distortion type live "Greatest Hits" package entitled "& Nobody Else" but it's always odd to suggest a live package as somebody's best album. I love the album though.

chemical brothers in central park, nyc - sept. 16th (fri night)

think they'll play in DC as well?
Anyone know anything about these Ultra events?
I've only been to the ones down in Florida, which are much bigger, but well done. I *think* this is the first time they're actually doing one in NY (they've tried several times before). Just don't expect a long set from the Chemical Brothers.. the events only 5 and a half hours long and they're sharing the stage with Oakenfold and Timo Maas (and their egos).. 2 hours probably. Sounds well worth it… but you should get your ticket NOW, because it will sell out quick.

Thanks for the info. That's what I needed/wanted: an endorsement!

We snapped up 6 tickets. Cheaper now on a Presale with only 5,000 available (versus 40,000 sold in Miami.)

Looking forward to seeing them again after their tremendous set @ Coachella. And it's hard to pass up a trip to NYC.
I'm pretty surprised to see Idlewild at the Black Cat. At the very least, I figured they'd hook up with someone like Stereophonics or the Coral to warrant a 9:30 slot. I wonder if their star is falling.
I am hoping for a Fletchers show on the 12th or 13th. I am away that damn weekend. has Idlewild played 930 before? i thought they always played the cat?

yes, I think the last time they were here they played to a crowd of mostly forum members

I don't think they have ever played the blackcat.

They did play Fletchers last go around though and it is not dissimilar to the cat in my opinion.

And the time before that was with Brassy.

I think the latest album is a bit of a disappointment.

Idlewild headlined 9:30 in July 2003. Can't remember what the crowd was like. I went to see them before having any albums…enjoyed the show and am looking forward to BC.
