honestly though, it would be funny if someone handed out flyers or something in front of the club … i'm guessing the fine upstanding citizens in cedars would be above something like this, but this goes beyond some petty band squabble, these assholes dissed anyone who cares about music in the whole DC area!!! rise above!!!

I know this kid who loves the "new" Cartel and I told him the story of what they did and he actually threw their CD away. I felt better about the youth of America after that.

Shame on the 9:30 Club for booking them!

That's a little odd; they could draw enough of a crowd to warrant opening up the main stage.

There was a popular DC indie band who long went under the name of Cartel (their bass player is a frequent poster here). Then this new "Cartel" comes around and starts using the name even though Cartel DC has the name trademarked and so forth. New Cartel books area shows; fans show up thinking it's Cartel DC. Cartel DC complains; New Cartel says "we're punk, go fuck yourselves."

Since Cartel DC is not on a semi-major label like New Cartel they know a lawsuit is going to cost them tons of money they don't have, and they change their name to Cedars.

Ironically, it is soon discovered Cedars is the name of a band from Minnesota who starts posting on here complaining after their site is linked from this board (never confirmed if this was a prank or authentic). Either way, Cedars DC - after just getting fucked over by douchebags - becomes douchebags themselves and refuses to change their name a second time, totally abscounding this Minnesota band.

Dunno about brennser but my opening salvo in his direction will be a couple big country 12", followed by some purple prince vinyl, hopefully he'll go down quickly as i don't want to resort to the white vinyl simple minds or split endz ture colorz record which will sure slice him in two :)
