The National had a bunch of announcements today. To recap:

Dub Nation RVA Vol. 13 - Aug 27
Primus - Sept 26
G. Love & Special Sauce - Oct 15
Mac Miller - Nov 29
is the national stepping up their game due to (2) venues now in the dc area to contend with?

Just what I guessed!

Great booking. Depending on price, I'm there. It's the day after Wilco at MPP, but I have Monday classes back in Richmond, so I'll be back in time for Primus at the National.

930 should get Primus sometime between Boston and Richmond.  What's up, Seth?  Just bump Mason Jennings
so Peter Hook coming up… remind me as I wasn't there; the last time around did he play bass and/or sing?

Everyone seemed to love the show as I recall but I had read he would not play bass which seemed to defeat the whole point so how did it end up working out?
Sang and played very little bass. His son played bass if I remember correctly.

thanks.

I just don't see the attraction in that.. he's a monster bass player; extremely creative.

Seeing him sing would be like seeing Keith Moon sing.. what would be the point?

i'll go back and examine the archives to see what people liked about the show.
What I liked about the Peter Hook show: the incredible range and emotion of Joy Division's music being brought to life in a respectful and well-executed manner. Putting aside any kind of idolatry and expectation that it'll BE Joy Division on the stage, seeing a song like "Day of the Lords" come together in a live setting made a huge amount of emotion bubble up within me. When people started flipping out during "Transmission" and screaming "DANCE TO THE RADIO!", it was just one of those perfectly sublime moments when you couldn't believe how good it felt to celebrate music with that level of intensity. It was way better than any show New Order ever did (and they were notorious for hating performing live). My brain was flooded with endorphins for days after that Peter Hook show. Probably my favorite concert last year.
During the video that preceded the show there was a younger Peter saying that he can't sing and play at the same time.  Was a great show, but if you think about the songs that will be played, be prepared for him to either sing or play bass – not both at once.
now he's doing Closer…..that's rather ambitious…hmmm
