Was an email blast sent out yesterday?
I didn't get one this week or last week.
Asked Mr. Eddie, but no reply.

Originally posted by Relaxer:no, what I'm angry about is that for a city that seems to be 'internationally attune' and should be a stop for UK/international bands those band promoters bypass DC the first time around since a) the 9:30 is very picky who they will book or not book, another venue would have taken that chance. Buzz should have a venue with an actual stage and we could have seen Simian Mobile Disco last year. It took two Baltimore Hot Chip shows before DC got a proper in town show. I'm just pissed that the tour dates for many UK bands doesn't include DC as often as it should - another venue would have filled in that gap - yet Seth and co. don't go the extra 100% or even allow a competing venue the chance. Thankfully the Rock and Roll Hotel is willing and able to book up and coming new UK bands, the Black Cat's recent inability to book any band of major interest is terribly lacking - although the AUTECHRE and BRITISH SEA POWER show are definately on my must see list.

you cant deny that he tries to bury any competing venues…and DC could use them.
he may be a 'good business man' but again - he's selfish there's no other appropriate word to describe him. His attitude to be the only one to 'rule the roost' is very apparent. Another other city council (DC caved under pressure - they are gullable and quite frankly stupid) would have laughed against his opposition - Silver Spring Maryland did just that.
[side comment - I am soooo glad to see that the upcoming Eels and Elbow show are at the 6 and I Synagogue]
Seth is a lot of things, good and bad, but you can't deny the fact that he's a true DC guy, has been on the scene longer than most of the board have been alive, and is more responsible for the caliber of music that comes through town than anyone else. For the size of DC, there are plenty of alternatives, so go ahead and make your stand and don't attend his shows.
Giles, you seem like an angry man. Keep exploring that and see what you get.

Yeah, but it's an enormous joke. Even the Azalea Festival got better bands… and by better, I mean some American Idol thing, some country band, and maybe some kinda top 40 (ie: Sister Hazel) band.
Marrz is a shitheap, Soapbox is ok, but not great, and that's really all the venues anymore. =/

I heard Crowded House is playing 3 nights at the club, May 2,3,4.
