Just Announced

Has it already been announced that the Mike Krol show on 3/7 seems to have moved from DC9 to Comet?

"Barf city" is one of those slang words that means the opposite.  Like "sick".

I was pretty vague in my post.

I like VW and was "barf city" in regard to the atrocious company they were keeping.

Whenever I see a festival lineup that's immediately awful, I scan it hoping that no bands I like are playing.

When I saw VW, I went all barf city on your asses.
Oh ok…Learn something new every day

The word “barf” really grosses me out I must say

I apologize - I just felt that I had to break out the visceral bug guns to articulate my disdain for that Firefly lineup.

The only festivals that appeal to me these days are those garage psych punk deals they get in Austin and Southern California w acts like Ty Segall, Black Lips, A Giant Dog, Harlem, Deerhunter, etc.  I like those just fine.

Oh wait….hey Seth!
I may never go to a festival again..,.the freefests were cool but mostly they are a logistical nightmare
The last festival I went to was that one in DC a few years back with the Strokes and Drake.  My buddy's wife was one of the organizers so I got free "VIP" tickets.  Free bud light and shitty food.  Festival was beyond mediocre.  Don't think I'll ever go to a festival again either after that.  Granted most aren't geared towards 40 year olds.
For people who think you’re too old for festivals: we’re not. Just try a different festival. Hopscotch in Raleigh is something I really think a lot of people on here would like. It’s incredible; there’s no sunk cost fallacy pressure to see headliners you don’t like and if you find a two hour window where there’s no bands you want to see, just walk a block up the street and eat in a nice restaurant. It’s one of the best musical events I’ve ever been to.
I've gotta think moogfest is a deal too.

Yeah, actually it is. Or it was in Asheville anyway. Can’t speak to Durham.

I think the last Festival I did had Pavement and LCD at MPP
festivals that i've been to and would go back in a heartbeat - no matter the lineup - iceland airwaves + le guess who (unfortunately they are now held the same exact week/end)
I despise festivals  (I guess it's ironic that I posted the Firefly post to start this)
I can't think of one that I've gone too that I thoroughly liked the performances
I've often had a fun time, but was way more due to the people I was with or the things we did between bands (and yes the intoxicants) …almost never the actual band.

my exceptions to that rule are
Jazz Fest, but I spent most of my time at the smaller stages, some insane hidden gems of musicianship, avoided the big end of day shows
Hardly strictly is pretty darn good, especially the price point, curation was unflappable
Noise Pop was well done IMO. You could buy a wrist band that would get you in to 10~ different clubs for two weeks of curated shows and there were always a few must see shows that made it worth just getting the wrist band. I think there are other festivals like this, but I've never been/heard

I think DC could pull something like this off with the 20ish venues in the city limits now

Hopscotch and SBSW are bucket list IMO, just haven't been able to swing either for the last decade

I've never done any camping or European festivals
I might have to come out of festival retirement for that Merge 30th in NC this summer - lookin’ tasty
Muddy Roots

Even worse: Post Malone….headlining!
I never got to do the whole large festival experience "growing up" and now that I'm on the downhill side of mid 30s, I still want to do one, unlike my friends who NEVER want to attend a festival. But man, if this is the future of festivals with asswipes like Post Malone headlining, I'm really reconsidering this.
Been to several….

Primavera Sound
Hopscotch
FYF
Hardly Strictly
Noise Pop
Le Guess Who
Fun Fun Fun
Northside

Considering Big Ears this year…
