only been there once… it's an old movie theater with a long ga floor, it will be more of a rock n' roll experience than the birchmere. some forumites enjoy(ed) going to shows there.

I already have tix for the Birchmere show, but I would go to the Recher show if The Silver Jews wasn't the same night…
There is seating for the Birchmere bandstand shows, and there is also standing. If you opt to stay seated you're not going to see anything.
Two advantages of Birchmere are that it's nonsmoking (i think), and the show finishes a lot earlier.

WED APR 26- FRUIT BATS, AMANDINE, SAM JAYNE $10 backstage 9:00
fruit bats are ok, but i'm more excited for sam jayne (love as laughter). i love that guy. the last two LAL albums have been really, really great.

Overpriced and mediocre, by general 9:30 board consensus.
Very limited selection if you happen to be a vegetarian. The vegetarian red pizza is tolerable.
One thing I found amusing is that they charge the same price for a pitcher of Bud Lite as they do for a pitcher of Sierra Nevada.

nope … i missed that show w/him and mercer and beam at iota a while back. i would guess you wouldn't care for him too much. he does seem like he could be kind of a mess by himself.

do you guys really not like the Fruit Bats? i have been straight-up LOVING them lately…
Originally posted by you be betty:their newest album is pretty blah, although I like the previous 2, and they were really good when they played Iota a couple of years ago, but that was just 2 of them, never seen them with a full band

by the way, every show I ever saw at Recher was great (only about 4 shows), I really like the place
I was just in San Diego last night for Social Distortion…I know Thatguy has posted this before, but the band are coming back sometime this spring to 9:30 according to the band. No date(s) yet, but they are hoping to do at least a couple of shows. By the way, they played the entire Mommy's Little Monster LP in order.
