Sonic Youth…hipster…I'd actually identify their fanbase more as "awkward aging punk guys working in record stores."
So I guess you're not a fan then?

You could be right, though I wouldn't know for sure. The last Sonic Youth record I bought was Goo, which might have come out before you were born!

I did see them once though, in maybe 91 or 92, with the Boredoms. It was an outdoor show in Richmond and as they were starting a seriously intense thunderstorm was rolling in…sky turning black and wind and trees blowing. A truly surreal concert moment. They were great though and somehow the show went on as the storm just blew past without ever hitting really, just a tad of rain.
I am a fan. Do you really consider me a hipster?

Goo is the last Sonic Youth album I bought as well.

I actually worked a Sonic Youth/Nirvana concert in 91 or 92 about a week before Nevermind came out. Great show by both bands….

I really like the Hem album I downloaded from emusic and there are some OTR tracks on samplers that I like
I saw Hem opening for Josh Ritter last week, and they were excellent (they do pretty, depressing music, lol)

You guys should both really give Sonic Nurse and Murray Street a listen, if you like the old school Sonic Youth stuff. Both of those newer records are really strong.

Sure you want to risk it on a band that's been playing around for almost 20 years? I'd say try and get to this one, if you can.

So the Bonapartes have apparently broken up, according to myspace and their website. And they're off the cat's schedule. . . Its too bad, I rather liked them.
