The Juan Maclean playing the "rocks off" boat cruise in NYC on 6/15. Looks like the club has nothing booked on the following friday or saturday. ;)

I think that show will be worth the trip up regardless of whether or not the club books them any time soon though.

I saw their live Coachella web feed. They sounded pretty good to me as well.
sonic youth goes on sale at 10 AM thursday, for all you hipster freaks.
Sonic Youth…hipster…I'd actually identify their fanbase more as "awkward aging punk guys working in record stores."
That's why the same 3 or 4 people make up the entire crowd at each of their shows.

So I guess you're not a fan then?

You could be right, though I wouldn't know for sure. The last Sonic Youth record I bought was Goo, which might have come out before you were born!

I did see them once though, in maybe 91 or 92, with the Boredoms. It was an outdoor show in Richmond and as they were starting a seriously intense thunderstorm was rolling in…sky turning black and wind and trees blowing. A truly surreal concert moment. They were great though and somehow the show went on as the storm just blew past without ever hitting really, just a tad of rain.

whatever became of them?
I think it's really easy to take Sonic Youth for granted since they've been around forever, toured constantly for years and years, but one day when they're not around people will appreciate them a hell of a lot more. I know that they're still kind of like gods to some people, but they've made some incredible records over the years. I still go see them every chance I get because there will come a day when I'll be bummed that I missed the chance. I still feel that way about Elliott Smith…I had a couple of other chances to go to Philly or wherever to see him, and I didn't go. Now I wish I had.
They're playing a show in Philly on the 30th of June.
